Qunabu, the fine Polish netlabel, is back with another wonderful deep and dubby free MP3 compilation release. Well, "is back" is not really correct, better is "have been back" because I'm nearly a year late with this release. But better late than never. Plus the good thing is that I can honestly claim to have been listening to this release for many, many months now over and over again.
The compilation features 12 long tracks on the outer rim side of dub, mixed with technoid or housy elements, sometimes Rhythm'n'Sound style, all contributions being really deep, spacious, open and wild. From the opener Dubsuite "Schlafschlauch" (German for "sleeping tube", whatever this shall mean) to the closer Peak "Darksuite", I didn't find one song to which I cannot groove.
Some tunes are heavy as... hm, what's the heaviest metal in the world? That's the one I mean, haha... for example the rough Biodub "Elders" or the massive Liquid Level "Yearning" which are both extremely heavy stepping. A soft whisper in the background of my brain claims that this is more techno than dub. Shut up, tiny voice! I like dub, not techno, so it is dub, end of discussion.
Over tunes like Segue "Tempo" are pure ambience and don't even need a beat to groove. Dubjack's "Volatilismo" is something - as I already mentioned - for the Rhythm'n'Sound fans. Experimenthal Dubbing Sessions "Broke Mi Nekk" shall be mentioned, too. This always brings me in a good mood.
And then, possibly the best song that has ever been composed in hundreds of years of musical compositions: Das Kraftfuttermischwerk "Downunder the Moon". Already the title is program and if you look at the top and background of this website, it's surely not hard to guess that I totally dig outer space themes. And this music is the soundtrack of outer space. Of course, I'm aware that there is actually no sound in space but if space would have sound - or music - then it would be "Downunder the Moon". It's the deepest, the saddest, the most beautiful, the most intense, the most fantastic song I have ever heard. I know I often say similar stuff when I'm exited but this time... well, listen to the song, make the room dark, forward the volume, take a pill of whatever sort to make you feel a bit sleepy or dizzy (just joking) and then try to get into the rhythm. Be the rhythm. And then, listen to the tiny-winy melody that drops in the background at 2:15. Keep it in mind as it will come back again and again, always the same but you will bet that it gets more intense and intense and intense with every time. If you're not affected by this, you definitely are not on the same wavelength as I am.
Once when I enjoyed this song and wiped away a ditsy tear from me eye, I suddenly was enlightened: On the day of my own funeral (which is hopefully in a future long time away from now), "Downunder the Moon" shall be played. Stereo speakers shall be put all over the place so that the mourners will get a surround effect and the bass shall pump and the melodies shall not be grasped by anyone because they carry me to wherever I'm heading then. And everyone will cry heavy tears.
But before I'm gonna enjoy a hell lot more DUB music in my life. Fuck yes!
