A Look Back on Dub Flash's Live Activities
|
Status Update: Last Dub Flash Show happened on 21.08.2010 The last official Dub Flash DJ set took place in August 2010 on the Dub Camp Festival. You don't need to ask me whether I would like to spin records in your town. I don't. Last steps to completion: Adding all the photos, videos and session recordings that I have to the Gigs-list. |

Dub Flash "Sound" is actually not the correct headline for this page. But it was the easiest way to put it. Straight away: Dub Flash was never about the sound business. I never claimed to have a sound, nor did I ever want to have one. I'm satisfied with my dick, so I don't need a sound. ;-p |

I started DJing in my early youths, first without a name, then from 1994 on as "Dieb in Dub" which has the following story: First, "Dieb" means "deep" in English and is spoken the same way, so it's a play of words. Second, "Der Dieb" was my hip hop artist name that I was given back in school by a friend. There is also a story behind this, but I don't reveal everything here. ;-) |
| After I started "Dub Flash" in 1998, I didn't DJ for a long time, if I remember correctly. I don't know why, but as with the sound, it was never my task. To be honest, I never fully enjoyed being a DJ. Mainly, because the crowd seldomly understood my selection. But trust me, I never just put on records just like that. My selections always had a meaning. But the ones who understood were usually countable on one hand. | |

It was in 2004 when I was invited for a little tour to Finland. There, I was marketed as "Dub Flash Sound", so that's where the headline comes from. Ever since, I visited several European countries for guest selections as well as gigs in my hometown Berlin and Germany. |

Most of the time, money didn't cover the expenses. Promises were broken. Venues were empty. Once, I was left back in the middle of nowhere, being told to take a bus back to the capitol - without a dime of the local currency in my pocket. So many stories I would have to tell. So many stories I would like to forget. I go with the latter. |

Since the scene developed more and more into a very unsympathic one (especially in Germany), I decided to quit my DJing "career" in 2010. My last set was a legendary (in my point of view), pre-scripted set on the "Dub Camp" Festival nearby Berlin. The comments proved that most really don't understand. "Pissen From Outer Space" was one of the tunes that were featured. Or Gabriel Le Mar, which some misinterpreted as techno. After the selection was over, I felt an extreme amount of relief, knowing I never have to get a headache again while trying to please an unpleasant crowd. And that's basically the end of the story. |
