RELEASE OF NEW MARK WONDER CD: "VICTORY – THE MYSTERY UNFOLDS" - CONSCIOUS ROOTS REGGAE
Kingston, Jamaica, October 9, 2007 – Battle-Axe Productions and JAH Light Music announce the release of Mark Wonder’s highly anticipated new CD, VICTORY – THE MYSTERY UNFOLDS (JL1110).
“A passionate singer and dedicated songwriter, Mark [Wonder] offers roots music with a modern edge and is `looking to build the movements even stronger and spread the vibes and the music worldwide on a more cultural and stronger vibration.’”
-- Chuck Foster (Host of Reggae Central on KPFK-LA and writer of the Reggae Update Column for Beat Magazine)
After a few listens to Mark Wonder, any reggae fan will be asking themself, “Why haven’t I heard of him before??” After a few more listens you will also begin to experience the depth of talent of this amazing singer. Mark Wonder, born Mark Andrew Thompson in Kingston, Jamaica, is truly a Jamaican wonder. Although Jamaica has no shortage of roots singers, Mark Wonder is a musical force that must be reckoned with. He has been blessed with an awesome musical talent. His powerful and infectious vocal delivery and master song crafting cannot be disputed. One can simply not resist singing or rocking to his quality creations which have that universal appeal whether he is praising the Almighty, chanting revolutionary songs laced with social commentary or keeping the fire of the ancient ones ablaze. His joyful expressions and contagious love songs are also exemplary of the breathtaking quality and range of this amazing and gifted singer.
Mark Wonder was influenced by his mother’s love for music and her record collection that included the great early R&B classics of The Impressions, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Smokey Robinson, Patti Labelle and Stevie Wonder from whom he has adopted the name “Wonder”. He also absorbed lots of foundation Jamaican music from artists like Burning Spear, Alton Ellis, Marcia Griffiths, Bob Andy, Heptones, Ken Boothe, Black Uhuru, Beres Hammond, Third World, Barrington Levy, The Wailers with Bob, Peter and Bunny, and Dennis Brown who in particular inspired him to become a singer.
Mark Wonder’s introduction to the world of music started out in the time when sound systems ruled in his native Jamaica. He visited several sound systems based in and around his community just to get a chance to showcase his skill. Eventually he hooked up with Black Star Sound with whom he landed his first job as a singer on a sound system but only for a short while before moving on to Black Scorpio Sound System who also eventually launched Mark Wonder’s recording career. “So I started to develop my craft around the sound system dem and from there I got the opportunity to go to the studio.” He recorded for a few smaller labels until Jack Scorpio, who was known at the time to break new artists, decided to start recording with him. From there he recorded several songs for the Black Scorpio imprint which included his first four singles. “Caution” was his very first vinyl single. Then came “Girl I Love Your Style” and “A We Rule.” A string of other songs followed.
Mark has grown tremendously creating a unique style of his own and is now considered one of the best vocalists in roots reggae. Even Jamaica’s Daily Gleaner newspaper took notice and has described him as “a sound very reminiscent of Garnet Silk.” But Mark sees himself as just another instrument and considers it always an honor to blow the trumpet in his vocal tone. It wasn’t an easy trod for this humble Rastaman who persevered on as a son of the Tribe of Levi. He continued recording for many labels and forged a respect and admiration from quite a the few of the budding international roots labels such as Al.Ta.Fa.An., Addis Records, Bobby Digital, Soundproof Productions, Special Delivery, Pow Pow, World-A-Music, 321 Strong and Acoustic Vibes with whom he coproduced quite a few impressive singles. Mark has recorded several collaborations with prominent reggae artists from Sizzla to Germany’s number one reggae artist, Gentleman. This passionate singer and dedicated songwriter has continued to record on a consistent basis over the years with innumerable singles continuing to be released to date.
Mark has recorded quite a few albums to date most of which unfortunately suffered from a lack of proper marketing, promotional deficiencies and very limited distribution. These included “Signs of the Times” which gave him singles such as “Signs of the Times” and “Lead the Way Jah,” that opened him up to the European market. There was also “Jeremiah” produced by Soundproof Productions which had prominent singles such as “Militant Soldier” and “It’s Just Love” from which his first video was made. A live album was recorded in 2001 in Switzerland titled, “Mark Wonder Live at the Coupole With Special Guest Prince Theo and the New Land Band.” “Break The Ice” was another excellent effort which brought the powerful single “Rainbow Child,” also portrayed on video.
Mark has widely toured Europe where he has steadily been building a solid fan base. Also in the U.S. he has created a huge impact especially on the west coast receiving tremendous response and rave reviews for his wonderful vocal styling and energetic live performances wherever he goes.
Now Mark Wonder has started his own imprint, Battle-Axe Productions, and is setting his sights on controlling his own music. So he has launched his latest effort “VICTORY – THE MYSTERY UNFOLDS” where he has joined forces with Jah Light Music. The project is a masterful and well-crafted release with great productions and decorated with lush horns and arrangements. The potent lyrical vibrations touch a range of issues, crossing boundaries from social commentary to even a roots rhapsody love song.
Mark Wonder’s intention is to bring nurturing sustenance to a needy world through his music, desiring to educate, inspire and bring consciousness with a spiritual essence and cultural awareness to listeners of roots reggae music. The trod has not been easy for this incredible vocalist who has persevered despite many obstacles. Although well respected in Jamaica’s music fraternity, Mark Wonder has been flying under the public radar for several years. Now with his newest CD “VICTORY – THE MYSTERY UNFOLDS,” this awesome musical talent is set to break down the barriers that have kept him from gaining the accolades and recognition he well deserves.

Bandulu dub is a project composed by two elements born in Vila de Prado, Braga, after many experiences trough life they finally found what they truly love, positive vibrations...
Having great Jamaican influences from the 60s, they started by dedicating their work and talent to musical experiences of Roots and Dub, later reaching several internacional partners. Nowadays, Bandulu have 2 finished goals, one of those was their first alignment "Corga's street nº. 2", by the end of 2004, coincidence or not, its the name of the street where it all began... This work was composed by 6 original songs, only released in Latin America, with the support of Carlos Fou and Laura Rewind.
This work brought strength and motivation for this project to step forward, continuing productions and experiences, raising knowledge and perfecting all their skills.
Bandulu was able to reach international spaces and some nationals by web and radio, always without live acts and any kind of professional support.
They kept working hard and hand in hand with positive vibrations, always giving thanks for Mother Nature, because withou her, nothing would be possible...
After several months in meditation and always believing and relying in posivite side of life, little by little Bandulu produced a conscient work and of very good quality. So here is born "Ganja Poetry", an albun including 13 original songs, with a pleasant voice line up composed by several international singers. We can hear voices from Argentina, Brasil, Italia, Mexico, Peru and Virgin Islands.
"Ganja Poetry" is out to the music market in March, its excelent musical quality should ensure a smiley future to Bandulu Dub!
Be connected!
We are now in the final stage of our work, we have songs, covers, a strong ideal and lots of positive vibes to spread, all in an organized album: "Ganja Poetry". We are now searching for support of labels and collecting information to set our aims higher. Therefore we want to know the conditions and procedures to record an official cd. If you are interested please contact us and we will send you our release. Any information and advice you can give us, we would be grateful.

DUB IN THA PUB IS BACK!
Popular music event; Dub In Tha Pub presented by local record label; Little
Rascal Records is on again!

PRESS RELEASE
DUB IN THA PUB IS BACK!
Popular music event; Dub In Tha Pub presented by local record label; Little Rascal Records is on again! Emerging from a 6 month hiatus after being shut down at its original home - The Barrier Reef Hotel, Dub In Tha Pub will bring a mix of live bands and DJ music to a city desperate for some quality music entertainment. Mark your diaries for Saturday 29th of September to be you and your friends ‘day of dub’ and come and join the rest of us at popular and cosy venue, Green Ant Cantina for a night of skank’n and smooth sounds at Dub In Tha Pub 15.
Dub music is like the weird and crazy cousin of Reggae music. There is a saying; ‘Dub Is Reggae, Reggae Is Dub’. Dub is more often instrumental and uses more effects processing (predominately, delay, reverb and pitch). It has an emphasis on a big bass sound and the bass-lines are usually steady grooves, big low end and a full and warm tone. It is a very casual, positive and cruising style of music which suits our laid back tropical lifestyle. It’s popularity in FNQ is evidenced by two of the more large scale music events in Cairns involving dub and reggae; ReggaeTown Festival and Kuranda Roots Festival, plus a healthy hand-full of reggae bands hailing from this region, a good dose of dub DJs and a legion of fans.
One of those bands is ‘Black Rising’ whom will play their first Dub In Tha Pub. Hailing from Kuranda, the boys from Black Rising (formerly known as the Pad Boys) are back on the scene after almost spending a year away from the music arena. But Pad Boys fans will be happy to know Black Rising have not drifted away from their “Rainforest Rock Reggae” style that launched the Pad Boys onto the big stage from the late 90’s to their final performance at last years Reggae Festival. High tempo reggae are still the main ingredients for the boys with a splash of mellow chants singing in their native tongue the Djabugay language. These boys can rock as a three piece band and also can play with several invited guests at any one time on stage. You’ll never know who’ll end up on stage, it might be you.
So if it’s dancing you want, Black Rising will deliver.
Complimenting the live music of Black Rising will be a selection of Cairn’s finest Dub DJ’s: Billy Dread is a local champion of the dub sound. Often setting up his own soundsystem and dance area at many parties and festivals around FNQ.Billy Dread pushes the dub sound relentlessly to the people at the same time providing a platform for emerging and established DJ’s to hone their craft. Also based in Kuranda; Ombudsman has a collection of music that would leave music lovers in complete awe, and most of it is dub, reggae and ska! Ombudsman is the DJ behind all the great interval music in-between bands at past Kuranda Reggae Festivals and this years Kuranda Roots Festival. Ombudsman has had positive collaboration working with Little Rascal Records at these festivals and will soon be able to call himself a ‘Dub Rascal’ with the inclusion of his track on the upcoming compilation CD; Dub Rascals Volume 3. Lazarus’s love for dub music is contagious. His selection of songs in his DJ sets cover the huge expanse of the genre. From roots numbers dating back to the early 70’s to the more modern contemporary sounds, Lazarus’s understanding and love of the genre is obvious and is a great introduction and educational listening lesson of dub music.
Somewhere between live band and DJ, utilizing live instrumentation as well as turntables and digital instruments is Little Rascal Record’s own, Dub Rascal Soundsystem. The Dub Rascal Soundsystem are a Cairns based live/electronic band including label boss Brett Caporn on bass, DJ Symonard on drums and percussion and Jerry Mane on turntables and effects. D.R.S play a hybrid of dubbed out live music, mashed with their own programed creations. With Jerry Mane currently in Barcelona, Spain, the remaining Dub Rascal’s have been busy rehearsing, writing and producing about a dozen new songs. Referencing and drawing inspiration from dub records, Dub Rascal’s have developed a new set-list of songs with a firm foundation drawn from referencing and learning the grooves from the roots of the genre.
Dub In Tha Pub lives on! The event will continue to provide a stage for local bands and DJs as well as bring to Cairns a selection of dub bands, sound-systems and DJ’s from around the country. You can also join the Dub In Tha Pub friends list at www.myspace.com/dubinthapub and be the first to know of upcoming shows, artists and live recordings.
