Roots Youths Records is another label of which I just heard by luck when I was in London and saw their record there. Doing some research, I found out that this release must be from 2006 because in January 2007 they announced three new releases for this year (2007). However, I haven't seen or heard any of these release, so I wouldn't wonder if this label was another "one hit wonder", too. A pity.
But anyway, at least this one release has been released and I say it right away: It's a killer release with two completely different sides: On the A-Side there is a very smooth and relaxed tune called "This Time", with complex beats, guitar melodies and a wonderful vocal contribution by Ghetto Priest. Although I usually don't like it melodical, this one deserves 5 stars without a doubt. The B-Side then delivers a wicked soundsystem optimised stepper in best digital UK 90s dub tradition. Bush Chemists style, you know (no wonder if you look at who's involved here), with digital strings and all that which we loved so much during the 90s (and I still do, haha). And the dub version... man, rough and tough, totally for a sound. Heavy stepper at it's best! |
