OK, I can make this review pretty short: "UK Dub Story" is the best Vibronics release so far. Not only that, it is also one of the best dub albums ever. 12 tracks, all killers, no fillers. Perfect instrumentation, perfect production, perfect music. And that not only on CD but also on a well pressed double vinyl LP. Is there a need to say more?
If there is, let me point out that the opener "Fistful of Dub" immediately, after just listening to it for a few seconds, made it into my all time top ten list of best songs in the world. Just wicked. I love it when dub is mixed with western soundtrack music. Should happen more often. You have the intro and then the riddim comes in and BOOM, you're in a different world. And you don't leave it before the last note of the album has been played. Massive! All following tunes are equally great, so I just pick out three more as an example. "Long Time Dub" feat. Echo Ranks: these skanks, oh boy, these skanks. Not to forget these skanks! Argh, they invade my head and I cannot escape. How is it possible that certain sounds have such a strong effect on me? It's not only that I enjoy listening, it's much more, things that cannot be put into words because they are not explainable. And DUB music is the one style where the chance of getting such "special" sounds is the biggest. One reason why I love DUB so. And here, Vibronics deliver perfect DUB. Who could ask for more? Only the greediest, I suppose. Did I mention that I want more? ;-) "World of Dub": A very fast, pushing, heavy stepper with a killer bassline, running up and down the scale. Play it on a soundsystem and use the last bass boost level, please. "King's Highway Dub" feat. Jah Marnyah: Something completely different, some kind of slowmotion dub with a dancehallesque beat.Usually, I would skip such a song immediately but here it actually works. It works very well. I put it on my 3rd favourite track of this album (figure out which ones are on position 1 and 2). It's groovy and skanky and makes me wanna move although I usually only move when it's stepping. But there's always a first time, isn't it? So, that's enough said. What are you waiting for? Get the album. Now! I'm not kidding! Oh, you already have it? Good boy/gal! |
