From North Finland comes a crucial new roots riddim called
"Kivijalka" (= stone base, in this case I suppose: solid
foundation or similar) from a group called Luonnollinen Kokijamies (=natural
experience man or something).
The riddim is very groovy and deep, it's a pleasure to listen to, roots reggae
at it's best and in a way that even I like it. And as you might now by now, it's
not too easy to convince me of a pure roots tune. But here they achieved it,
congratulations.
As vocalists, they present Jah Zebi ("Dem A Di One Yah") who we have
heard (and approved) on several brilliant releases during the last maybe 2 years
and Jahvice from Helsinki. I think it's the first time I hear Jah Zebi on a
roots release and I must say that I wouldn't even have realised that it's him if
it wouldn't be stated on the label. He is truly a very good singer.
Jahvice again is known to the internet dub scene for quite some years now since
he is present on communities like Versionist and similar. I myself have played
with him on a session in Helsinki some years ago and it's good to finally see
(hear) him on a vinyl release. On "Last Days" he uses his typical way
of singing. I don't know how I shall explain it, maybe like a "growling
wailer" or similar. Very unusual and easily to be distinguishable from
other singers / MCs. Nice one.
I suppose you have already realised what the problem of this release is. If not:
It's a 7" and it has two different vocal cuts on it. That means: no dub!
And that's a minus point for DUB Flash. But still, I need to recommend this
release to you anyway because it's really one of these tunes you have to have.
It's a shame that there is no dub version BUT: I demand a second release on this
riddim with one more vocal cut and a heavyweight dub version with a lot of extra
effects, ok? :) (And until then, I enjoy the MP3 dub version that I got
e-mailed, haha!)
Check out a sample and information (oh well, it's in Finnish though) here
but don't be shocked by the price. ;)
