Some months ago, I was in the Berlin Dub Club and one of the DJs was just
about to start a Dubstep selection. I was already prepared to leave the scene
but the first tune was actually pretty cool (for a Dubstep tune). I checked what
it was and it was Natural Marcus "Talks of the Prejudiced (Clouds
Remix)". A couple of weeks later, I was looking for this record and had the
clever idea that I might as well just search for the original release.
So I did and was very surprised to find out that it's a release from Helsinki,
Finland. Even more surprised was I when I realised that the music sounded very
much like the style of Gregor Teosa who has a tune on DFR010 "Dub Royal -
Best of Dub Flash". So I asked him and yes, it was his production. The
world is so small. But no wonder that I liked the tune from the beginning. ;)
Now finally I have the original record and am very pleased with it. "Talks
of the Prejudiced" is a smooth, chilly dub riddim with nice skanks and a
wonderful melody section. On top of it are very entertaining vocals by Natural
Marcus. One of the best vocal contributions ever, in my opinion. 5 stars.
The B-Side is a true AA-Side with a very deep and intense stepper, Northern
lights style, you know. Again, brilliant vocal contribution and very foraminous
use of instruments. Like a refreshing chocolate-mint-icecream on a 35 degrees
hot summer day. Makes you forget the unfriendly heat for a while. Dub is as
heavy as one could wish.
Definitely one of the best releases for quite a while. A must have for all
serious European rotos & dub lovers. And if you dare, get the Dubstep remix,
too. You might as well find the remix on Youtube if you search for the right
string of words. ;) For all others.
