The second new release on Tube Dub Sound Records is a reggae song in best
summer jam tradition. You get all the needed ingredients, from blazing horns to
percussion (incl. Brazilian style) to guitar skanking to a smooth one dropper
and all that combined with a big dose of sunshine. There is even a short part
where I would've sworn it's West Coast LA style. ;)
On the A-Side. Nya Azania contributes her version "Gun Crime City".
Her voice reminds of the sould ladies of the 70s. I reckon that she did an album
with Jah Shaka during the 80s, am I right? Let's see if we hear more again from
her in the future. The version is very nicely dubbed and leaves out most of the
"summer" ingredients which actually leads to a pretty cool dub tune, I
have to say.
About the Ranking Joe version, I cannot write because I have to admit that I
only got promo tunes from the A-Side. The release was supposed to be out since
1st June 2008 but... I haven't seen or heard it anywhere. But since I thought I
would have it by now, I had already prepared the page for the review and
therefore, I decided to write about what I know.
