Jah Warrior
Jah Warrior is one of the most established artists in the wordwide Dub and reggae scene since the mid 90s. This wiki is about his connection to Dub Flash.
Steve Mosco aka Jah Warrior was the very first person who contacted me through my newly started website dubflash.com. That was around summer 1998. I don't remember how he found me, but it was at a time when dubflash.com was only at its very beginning, and I didn't have a proper vision for it yet, and had never thought that it will eventually grow so big.
One of the main reasons why dubflash.com eventually turned into the “Dub Information Portal” (DIP) by late 1998 actually was Jah Warrior. While I don't remember details of our e-mail conversations back then, he gave extensive feedback and had good suggestions about what kind of Dub-related website he would like to have. One actual example for this I remember very well: He suggested that I would interview people from the Dub-scene. And he volunteered for the very first interview. That was the start of the DIP.
Another suggestion was to write reviews about the records of which I previously just mentioned that I bought them. The very first version of dubflash.com was more like what later would be known as a blog with content like “Today I bought the album ABC from XYZ". That extended then to “And this is what I think of it” in the newly established review section.
During the decades, I casually stayed in contact with Jah Warrior, and he has always come across as a great person, who was willing to provide honest feedback, whether good or bad. He also shared plenty of good advice about music production with me, which I always appreciated, even though our preferred Dub-style is a bit different.
My Jah Warrior Records collection is one of the most complete, at least regarding vinyl records. As with everyone else, after the transition to mostly digital music, I mostly lost track of his discography.
Around 2000, I bought a DAT full of dubplates from Steve. That one was forgotten during the years. Until in 2017, I started browsing through my huge archive of dubplates that I had collected all these years, and I was able to get the tunes digitalised. This awoke the desire in me to finally release something from Jah Warrior. It made sense. In fact: How did it take that long? Jah Warrior produced a new song for me which eventually was released in two versions on Dub Flash's 20th anniversary release “Escape Velocity” in 2018. It was also the 20th anniversary of Steve contacting me for the first time. Time flies…
In 2024, Steve provided a special mix of one of his tunes for the “Dub Shoe - Episode 3” compilation. So there are two Jah Warrior features on Dub Flash now.
By the time of writing this text (February 2026), Jah Warrior is still going strong, and is as active as ever, producing heavyweight Dubs, mostly for digital release via Bandcamp, but sometimes still on vinyl. On social media, he is telling interesting stories from back in the days, and about the many people in the scene that he has met. Very worth reading and following.
Thank you for your support throughout the decades, Steve! Nuff respect!
